Homemade flatbreads are perfect for small gatherings, quick appetizers, or for camping meals. Flatbreads are brushed with olive oil and topped with freshly sliced tomato and creamy mozzarella cheese. This easy recipe bakes for 15 minutes and is finished with Barilla Rustic Basil Pesto and topped with basil.


Cooking tip: This dish works perfectly as a campfire pizza recipe. Place the flatbread in a well-greased cast iron pan and top with tomato slices, cheese, pesto, and basil.

Ingredients 4 Servings

Ingredients for Pesto Flatbread Pizza:

  • ½ jar Barilla® Rustic Basil Pesto
  • 2 Flatbread pizza crusts
  • 1 heirloom tomato, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 8 basil leaves
  • Sea salt to taste

  • Preheat oven to 425° F. Brush flatbread with olive oil. Top with tomato slices and cheese.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is bubbling. 
  • Drizzle with pesto and top with basil before serving.
  • Cook in skillet until well browned, add the remaining butter to the skillet and flip each sandwich. Cook until the cheese is melted and the sandwich is browned
